This last Art Walk will be an absolute party to welcome the coming of spring. This exhibition will feature a concert by Mario's new band THE STAR GONDOLA (fun, intimate band that plays meaningful grooving, dancy music expressed through a sweet celestial theme) featuring Carlos Snaider (guitar, voice and keyboards), Julian Weisman (bass and voice) and Mario (drums, voice and keyboards). This will celebrate the upcoming release of their debut recording, with more surprises! New VR worlds, co-created by Mario and programmer Carl Moore, will also be featured alongside other special programming to conclude Mario’s residency!

Axis Gallery Pioneer Square, SEATTLE, WA - Mario Layne Fabrizio is happy to present his exhibition “THE LAST MAGICIAN.” Featuring over 30 unique artwork available for purchase, this installation shows what happens when you marry the mystery of the stars, the surrealism of dreams and the mysticism within humanity. Viewers are left to appreciate that the unknown - the magic of things - is what keeps humanity alive and evolving. In addition to the core exhibition, On First Thursday Art Walks between January and March 2024, the exhibition will feature the following specially curated events.

ARTWALK 1: January 4, 2024 - This event will debut immersive VR artwork created by Mario Layne Fabrizio and programmer Carl Moore. The user of the VR will experience going on self-made journeys inside Mario’s paintings.

ARTWALK 2: February 1, 2024 - This event will feature an hourlong concert by Mario's chamber group presenting compositions from his set THE KOSTOCHKI (film-like chamber music that is ethereal, beautiful and angelic). The music will feature Emma Burge on voice & violin, Phillip Golub on piano and Mario on percussion. This exhibition will debut a new VR world video game co-created by Mario and programmer Carl Moore.

Mario Layne Fabrizio was born in 1996 and is originally from South Orange, New Jersey. After growing up playing on the New York and New Jersey scenes, he moved to Boston to study drums, percussion and composition at New England Conservatory. Some of his mentors include Vijay Iyer, Jason Moran, Tyshawn Sorey, Joe Morris and jazz legends Billy Hart and Cecil McBee. He has toured throughout South America, Europe and China, was a member of the American Repertory Theatre, and has performed with many notable musicians like Cecil Mcbee, Claudio Roditi, Joe Morris, Nilson Matta, Ali Boulo Santo Cissoko, Jason Palmer, Arturo O’Farril and Volker Goetze. He has received high praise with London Jazz News describing him as "ferocious but subtle," and Steve Smith of On The Record saying he "plays with assurance, charisma, and infectious enthusiasm." After his debut show PRESENTING: MARIO in June of 2023, he was featured in KOMO News and Seattle Refined as Artist of the Week. In 2020, his chamber ensemble TROPOS released their debut album "AXIOMS//75 AB," with Mario receiving critical acclaim on his compositions from publications such as The New York Times, FranceMusique, AllMusic, and JazzTimes. Tyshawn Sorey describes Mario as "one of the next generation of creative improviser-composers who will only continue to push the music in a forward direction." With extensive study in drums and percussion, composition, poetry and visual art, Mario cultivates these mediums together to create his own vision of a unified, fluid art form. For his creative interdisciplinary approach to art, Mario has received awards from YoungArts, MASSMoCA, MASS Cultural Council, Assets for Artists, Jack Straw Cultural Center, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, EBCP and has been commissioned by National Sawdust in NYC and MadArt among others. “THE LAST MAGICIAN” will take place on First-Thursday Art Walks in Pioneer Square throughout January and March at AXIS Pioneer Square 308 1st Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104 in Seattle, WA. Admission is free for these public events and donations are encouraged.
